It has been five years since Maleficent proved that she's not so bad after all. Unfortunately, things are changing in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Angelina Jolie's character will need to deal with Princess Aurora getting married to Prince Phillip and possibly leaving her care. But will the fairy realize she needs help from new allies to save Aurora from people who want to harm the princess in Maleficent 2?
A new poster for Maleficent 2 has just been revealed, and once again it shows Angelina Jolie's character as the main focus. However, the image also features some new characters who will be introduced in the Mistress of Evil. The mysterious Queen Ingrith played by Michelle Pfeiffer appears right beside Maleficent, and her look suggests that she might have a dark secret as well. In addition to that, there are two fairies played by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Ed Skrein in the new poster.
There is little doubt that Queen Ingrith will be a powerful enemy for Maleficent, as proven in the sequel's official trailer. Early on, it becomes clear that the Queen is trying to turn Aurora against her godmother, something that the fairy quickly catches on to. Unfortunately, it looks like Aurora takes Ingrith's side, forcing Maleficent to rally the magical creatures in what appears to be a war against the humans. The fairy is certainly powerful, but she somehow gets injured and falls into a body of water.
But that's not all. Later, Queen Ingrith asks what happened to Maleficent after the fight. A woman informs the Queen that "there was another creature" that came to the fairy's aid and took her out of the water. This is when the new character played by Chiwetel Ejiofor is heard for the first time. It looks like he has taken Maleficent to safety and wants her to remember where she came from.
"You've spent years caring for a human," he tells her. "Now it's time to care for your own." It is then revealed that the character, which is reportedly named Connal, has several other fairies with him. Could this mean that Maleficent will finally abandon Aurora and live with her kind?
Ed Skrein's character is not featured in the Maleficent 2 trailer. However, there is a possibility that he will play a large role if he also appears in the new poster. There are speculations that he might be a fairy soldier who can help Maleficent reunite with Aurora. On the other hand, he might also be a villainous character who will force Maleficent to stay with the other fairies.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is scheduled for release on October 18.
