Queen Elizabeth II is Britain's longest-reigning monarch, and it seems like people still favored Her Majesty despite her old age as a new poll revealed she is the most popular member of the royal family.
The latest poll by YouGov consisting of 9,404 interviews involving members of the British public revealed that Queen Elizabeth is the most popular royal, with 72 percent of the participants giving a positive opinion of her. The monarch even ranks higher among women with 77 percent, while 78 percent among the Baby Boomers generation.
Voters described Her Majesty as dedicated, dignified, respected, hard-working, and admirable. According to royal expert Tim Ewart, royal family members will probably struggle with a "serious popularity problem" once the monarch dies. The former royal editor of ITV News claims that when that happens, one of the reasons for the monarchy's popularity will be gone.
Ewart also said Prince Charles would take over as King but ranks the seventh place in the poll with 48 percent of the votes. Since Queen Elizabeth is one of the major reasons for the monarchy's popularity, the question is: will that transfer to her son? The royal expert said that would remain an open question since the Prince of Wales may not be as popular as his mother.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry ranks second most popular royal in the poll, with 71 percent of the overall rating and his wife Meghan Markle placed on the sixth spot with 49 percent of votes. Ewart still has faith, particularly to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as the royal couple could keep the popularity of the royal family intact since they appeal very greatly to a younger generation.
Going back to the poll, Prince William ranks on the third place with 69 percent, followed by his wife Kate Middleton with 64 percent, and Queen Elizabeth's husband, Prince Philip, on the fifth spot with 54 percent.
Other royal family members that ranked on the poll include Prince Anne (46 percent, 8th place), Zara Philips (42 percent, 9th place), Sophie, Countess of Wessex (29 percent, 10th place), Camilla Parker-Bowles (29 percent, 11th place), Prince Edward (26 percent, 12th place), Princess Eugenie (25 percent, 13th place), Princess Beatrice (24 percent, 14th place), and Prince Andrew (21 percent, 15th place).
In another report, there were claims that Queen Elizabeth could give up the throne when she turns 95, which is two years from now. According to royal author Phil Dampier, the monarch will slow down, and the 1937 Regency Act might be brought in. Her Majesty is still the Queen when that happens, but Prince Charles will take most of the royal duties of the monarch.
