Poldark season 5 bowed out of BBC last Monday, Aug. 26, on a high note. Ross Poldark (played by Aidan Turner) infiltrated and stopped the Frenchmen from carrying out its invasion.
The final scene of Poldark season 5 saw Ross boarding a ship for France as his ladylove Demelza (played by Eleanor Tomlinson) looked on. Reiterating their commitment of love and learning that she's with child, Ross told Demelza that he would return.
This declaration had fans wondering if Turner's character is also telling viewers that there could be a Poldark season 6 renewal. However, according to Metro, BBC and even Turner have long confirmed that Poldark season 5 would be its last.
"During filming for this series there was a sense of completion and relief that we made it this far, that the show has been successful and that people enjoy watching it," the actor said. 'Hitting that mark and returning for the fifth series was always the goal, and we are proud to have achieved that."
Despite ending, Poldark season 5 gave fans a great ride as the show went off the books and explored storylines that were not in the novel. The finale season covered 11 years of story in the book source's seventh and eighth installment, "The Angry Tide" and "The Strangers from the Sea," per Daily Express.
Turner did say in previous interviews that Poldark season 5 won't feel like an ending. Because of this, followers of the show believe that the story, especially the parts skipped in the books, could still be revived someday.
Winston Graham wrote 12 books about Poldark from 1945 to 1953 and from 1973 to 2002. Executive producer Karen Thrussell acknowledged the stories they didn't include in the show might find its way on television in the coming years.
Writer Debbie Horsfield, on the other hand, said that her mindset never says never. Some of the actors also expressed willingness to come back if BBC revives Poldark.
In the books, Poldark was in his 60s when the story wrapped, and his three children with Demelza lived happy married lives. It ended with Ross' daughter, Bella Poldark, traveling back to Nampara to spend Christmas with Ross and Demelza.
This ending was foreshadowed in the Poldark season 5 finale, leaving fans satisfied.
