Is Steven Universe season 6 ready for screening? Fans of the animated series on Cartoon Network have been looking forward to the next season after the show last aired an episode in January 2019.

But a renewal for Steven Universe season 6 has not yet been announced. The show also hasn't started production of the new season since the creators of the series have been working on Steven Universe: The Movie, which is set for a release on Sept. 2, 2019.

"The epic music-filled adventure for Steven and his friends will overflow with more new songs and music than ever before," the press release from Warner Media for Steven Universe: The Movie stated. "In his first television movie scheduled for this fall, Steven thinks his time defending the Earth is over, but when a new threat comes to Beach City, Steven faces his biggest challenge yet."

The movie is set two years after what happened in "Change Your Mind" and Steven is now at the ripe age of 16. A new villain arrives on earth to sap the life off its inhabitants while Steven and the Crystal Gems have only two days to bring order back and save lives.

After the movie's release, Steven Universe season 6 could be very different according to Screen Rant. The fifth season was a turning point for the character as he has evolved, matured and he has finally figured out how he has to live his life.

Suffice it to say, Steven Universe season 6 could be the reinvention of the character. Executive Producer Ian Jones-Quartey also hinted this possibility in a podcast interview with the show's creator Rebecca Sugar.

This animated series was always about a young person's coming of age story. In the sixth season, Steven has to show that he can't be distracted from who he really wants to become and he doesn't have to conform to the expectations of other people.

Steven Universe debuted on the Cartoon Network in 2013 after a couple of years of development. The main character is a half-Gem, who protects the earth from villain Gems. The animation is set in a fictional town called Beach City, where the Crystal Gems, a group of as ageless alien warriors live.

The show runs as a half-hour animation and has aired over 160 episodes in five seasons.
