Some of the kids on Riverdale season 4 are going to graduate in the upcoming installment. Actress Lili Reinhart (as Betty Cooper) confirmed that there would be a few main characters leaving high school soon.
In an interview with Variety, Reinhart said that she thinks there will only be three more seasons left to tell the story after Riverdale season 4. Since the show is basically about teenage kids then, realistically speaking, season 7 would be a good length of time for the series to finally do its curtain call.
"The kids are graduating from high school in season 4," the actress said. "Once they get out of high school, I hope there are better things for Betty coming up."
Meanwhile, showrunner and creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in an interview with TV Line that Riverdale season 4 would feature more scenes in school with the cast since they are on their senior year. Archie (played by KJ Apa) will be back on the football team while the Vixens will also be in plenty of the upcoming episodes.
There will be some new faces to spice up the storylines in Riverdale season 4. Sam Witwer has joined the show in a recurring role as the teacher of creative writing, Mr. Chipping. He will be mentoring Jughead (played by Cole Sprouse) as a writer, which should be fine except Mr. Chipping has this darkness inside him that will be uncovered in the series.
Kerr Smith has also been cast as the principal Mr. Honey. His character is described as a bit of a hard-ass, especially among the seniors. Mischel Prada, on the other hand, will recur in Riverdale season 4 as the private investigator Hermosa. She is ambitious, confident, decisive, and calculating.
Meanwhile, Riverdale season 4 episode 1 promises to be super emotional for the fans as it is the tribute episode for Luke Perry (as Fred Andrews). The special installment will be a stand-alone episode that will still be tied to the characters even if the tribute is about the actor in real life.
Special guest star Shannen Doherty has scenes with the teenagers of Riverdale season 4. Aguirre-Sacasa hinted that this special episode would change the original idea they had for the show since the death of Perry last March.
Riverdale season 4 will premiere on The CW on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019.
