After months of waiting, Amazon is finally releasing a new episode of the family drama series Just Add Magic. But, is this the much-awaited fourth season? Or, is this why the streaming platform has not made an official announcement on whether Just Add Magic season 4 has been renewed or canceled?
According to Decider, fans can watch Just Add Magic: New Protectors beginning Oct. 25, 2019. The site billed it as a "series" suggesting that it's not just a one-off release. Is this going to be a spinoff?
Mashable, however, has billed the show as a "special," under TV. Forbes, on the other hand, cited Just Add Magic: New Protectors as "a special new episode," suggesting that it's still part of the original Just Add Magic series.
According to the official synopsis, Just Add Magic: New Protectors will find the original characters Kelly (played by Olivia Sanabia), Darbie (played by Abby Donnelly) and Hannah (played by Aubrey K. Miller) traveling to Bay City for one purpose. They will be grooming a new trio of young girls, also known as the new protectors, on how to follow the recipes of The Magic Cookbook and handle its downsides.
It's unclear who these new protectors are in the latest episode as Amazon has not made any announcements or released a teaser just yet. Miller, however, posted a confirmation on Twitter advising her followers that they will be back for the special.
It sounds like Just Add Magic: New Protectors will serve as a transition show. Amazon will likely decide on the show's renewal or cancellation depending on how this special is received by the streaming platform's subscribers or the show's young fans.
Just Add Magic is loosely based on the kid's book series by Cindy Callaghan. The show debuted on Amazon in 2015 and became the streamer's most popular Kids Original series to date.
The show centers on three female best friends who enjoy cooking together. While scouring the attic at Kelly's home, they discovered an ancient cookbook with strange recipes.
Using these recipes, the girls realize that these are magic spells that they must handle with care. Otherwise, they have to deal with the consequences or correct their mistakes.
Just Add Magic ran for three seasons on Amazon with 50 episodes. Joanna Lewis and Kristine Songco developed the series.
