Queen Elizabeth is the reigning monarch of England, and her eldest son Prince Charles is the heir to the throne. Then, the Prince of Wales’ firstborn Prince William is the second in line.
At 93 years old, Queen Elizabeth is not showing any signs of slowing down. However, if Her Majesty will eventually decide to retire, Prince Charles will take over. Rumor has it that the Queen already gave up on her son and is focusing more on Prince William.
A royal fan took to the online forum site Quora to share that it’s quite impossible for Queen Elizabeth to have given up on Prince Charles. The fan noted that Her Majesty even gave full support to her son at the Commonwealth Heads of Government last year.
“That is hardly a sign that she is ‘giving up’ on her son but the exact opposite - that she has the utmost confidence in him,” the fan wrote. “The leaders of the Commonwealth countries also agree as they voted unanimously to appoint him to that position. It isn’t hereditary so it isn’t a given that, when the time comes, William will get that position.”
However, the fan did acknowledge all those speculations that Queen Elizabeth is putting more effort and spending more time with Prince William and Kate Middleton. He said the reason behind this is that Her Majesty is fully aware that there is a high chance she wouldn’t be around anymore when Prince William becomes the King of England.
Since Prince Charles has been with his mother’s side for quite a long time while she’s doing her royal duties, Queen Elizabeth knows that the Prince of Wales is knowledgable enough to rule. "Charles has disappointed his mother from time to time, but she has not neglected him in terms of his future job as King. Rather, she has spent decades helping to prepare him for the job. She hasn’t given up on her son. Not one bit,” one comment read.
As for Prince William, the Queen is using her time to mold him and Kate Middleton so they would be ready when the time comes that the Duke of Cambridge is going to be King. Prince Charles is 70 years old, at the moment; hence, for Prince William to be King just a couple of years after Queen Elizabeth decided to retire is not far from happening.
Meanwhile, age has never been an issue in ruling the whole of England; Queen Elizabeth has done it for decades. But, what if Her Majesty becomes too fragile to carry on? Even though the Queen is not leaving the throne anytime soon, she has started to distribute more of her duties to the younger royals.
