This Is Us Season 4 premiere has dropped too many revelations and hints of what the rest of the season holds. For one, it gave viewers something to chew about the future of Kevin Pearson.
In the pilot episode of the fourth season, Cassidy Sharp (Jennifer Morrison) was introduced in the present time. She is a U.S. Army veteran and had an unfortunate encounter with Nicky Pearson (Griffin Dunne).
Cassidy is suffering from PTSD and alcoholism. While she is sharing her story at a group therapy at the Veteran's Affairs, Nicky threw a stone at the window. Jack's (Milo Ventimiglia) brother got arrested and called Kevin (Justin Hartley) to bail him out.
This means there is a possibility that Kevin and Cassidy will meet in the upcoming episodes, if not in Episode 2. Cassidy and Nicky could bond over their similar experiences in war while Kevin and Cassie may also develop a special relationship over their common issues with alcohol.
Their first meeting may develop into a romantic relationship, marriage, and having their own family. Or maybe not.
This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman has confirmed that Cassidy's storyline is connected with Kevin. However, he did not say if the new character will be Kevin's love interest.
"I can't say too much about it other than the relationship is complicated. It's formative, and it's a very deep, interesting, bizarre relationship. And whether or not it's ever romantic is for the series to delve into a little bit later on," he told Entertainment Weekly.
In the present time, Number 1 of the Big Three broke up with Zoe (Melanie Liburd) after they admitted to each other that they have different views about having children. In the fast-forward scene towards the end of Season 3 finale, fans get a glimpse of Kevin's son, but the identity of his mother was not revealed.
In This Is Us Season 4 Episode 1, Cassidy already has a family, but she broke up with her husband, Ryan, after she hurt their son unintentionally. Cassidy's son, Matty, is about 10 years old. He is definitely not Kevin's kid that viewers saw in Season 3 finale.
If the theory is correct that Kevin and Cassidy will eventually end up together, it may happen later in their lives rather than sooner. Another possibility is that the couple adopted a kid or could have decided to have a child later in life, considering the age of Kevin's son in the flash-forward scene. Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) already have grey hair in the scene. This means Kevin is also the same age as them, but his son is still around 12 years old.
This Is Us Season 4 airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. Episode 2, titled "The Pool: Part Two" will hit the small screen on October 1.
