No one is safe in "The Last Of Us 2" because you never know when are you going to be complacent and when to be aggressive in the game. It appears that Naughty Dog has integrated some revolutionary technology to the engine of "The Last Of Us 2" to prove how amped the characters in the game's universe are. Aside from the new Upgrade System, devs reveal that the game allows players to hear the heartbeat of the enemies and even their own.
"The Last Of Us 2" New Upgrade System
Gamespot reports that the new upgrade system in "The Last Of Us 2" is not just there to make Ellie stronger. Instead, it changes the way players enjoy the game. When the site asked game's co-director Anthony Newman about the upgrade system, the director said that there was so much that they wanted to explore, particularly in terms of player strategy. He added that they want to empower the players by allowing them to strategically express themselves and find their own way to play "The Last Of Us 2."
It appears that some gameplay mechanics will stack as the player improves Ellie's skills. Also, different players could have varying gameplay experiences in "The Last Of Us 2," but players are not obliged to a particular build. According to Newman, players can discover these synergies between play style, a set of weapon upgrades that you can obtain at the workbench, or a set of player upgrades that all form this convergence of a unique version of the game for the player.
Heartbeat in "The Last Of Us 2"
There is no heartbeat monitoring device in "The Last Of Us 2," and it does not have any gameplay mechanic where players are required to keep a stable heartbeat. However, the heart rate of the characters in the game changes in considerable ways. Polygon talked to Anthony Newman who explained the revolutionary technology that they incorporated into "The Last Of Us 2."
According to the "The Last Of Us 2" co-director, one of them is the audio where any action a player takes in the game will affect the sound that Ellie is making. Being near to enemies will cause Ellie's heartbeat to rise, breathe much harder, which will make the scene more realistic and tensed. Interestingly, this is not limited to Ellie but is applied to all the characters in "The Last Of Us 2." This means even the enemies and the infected have a heartbeat too.
