Queen Elizabeth may be 93 years old, but she is certainly not showing any signs of slowing down. While her trait as a hardworking Queen is very admirable and inspiring, there is actually a downside to it.
As it turns out, Queen Elizabeth is so used to taking care of all her royal duties that she forgets to take care of her health. A Palace source revealed that Her Majesty told a friend last year that her “knees were playing up.” However, she didn’t want to undergo an operation as she believed it would keep her from completing her obligations.
Despite her age, Queen Elizabeth didn’t want to take time off to have knee surgery. An expert said that she might worsen her condition if she keeps ignoring it.
“Of course anybody, of any age, who has undergone surgery and then experiences problems with that area should seek medical advice and guidance. It may well be the case that there is not a serious issue here, but that a check-up is needed to ensure everything is okay with the surgery that was completed 16 years ago,” Shamir Patel, leading pharmacist and founder of Chemist 4 U, said.
Queen Elizabeth had a knee operation back in 2003, and Patel said that most of the complications happened when an issue was encountered shortly after the surgery. Since Her Majesty’s surgery was done over a decade ago, he shared that “the chance of her developing complications as a result of the surgery are slim, especially because the procedure was not a knee replacement, but only to repair a torn cartilage in her right knee.”
But, considering Queen Elizabeth’s lifestyle, regular engagements, and public appearances, it is surely hard for Her Majesty to deal with her daily obligations being bothered by her knee. “If she is experiencing discomfort she should certainly take some rest and seek medical advice and support. At the end of the day, her health and wellbeing is the most important thing here,” Patel noted.
It has been, previously, reported that Queen Elizabeth already distributed some of her duties, especially her tours overseas, to the younger royals. That being said, the pharmacist is urging Her Majesty to take a break and put her health first. She had mentored her children and grandchildren well for years, so she really shouldn’t worry too much about royal obligations and think about herself and condition for now.
