Emily and Nick could start all over again (or not) when Absentia returns with a brand new season. Following the death of Alice, the former couple could rekindle the romance in Absentia Season 3.

In Season 2 finale, it was revealed that Alice Durand (Cara Theobold) is not what many think she is. It turned out that she is Dr. Oduwale's accomplice. She intentionally got close to Emily (Stana Katic) husband, Nick (Patrick Heusinger), and their son, Flynn (Patrick McAuley), when she pretended to be a therapist.

Emily confronted Alice and when she is about to let her escape, Gunnarsen (Natasha Little) shot and killed her. The season ended with Emily delivering the tragic news to Nick and Flynn.

It wasn't clear if Emily told Nick everything about Alice, considering she made a deal with Alice before her supposed escape. During their confrontation, Emily told Alice that she will let her escape on condition that she wouldn't show her face to Nick and Flynn ever again. However, if she did tell Nick, he might have resented her second wife and eventually turn his attention to Emily again.

However, viewers could also remember that, earlier this season, Emily told Nick that she doesn't want to go back to what they used to be, and she wants to move forward with her life. This means if Nick would want Emily back, he might need to show more effort to change his former wife's mind. Nick has to do that fast as well before Emily leaves Boston again.

In the upcoming Absentia Season 3, Emily will embark on a dangerous journey to protect her family. The third installment will pick up three months after the events of Season 2. Emily is about to go back to the FBI when one of the criminal cases of Nick threatens her family.

Absentia follows the story of FBI agent Emily Byrne, who vanishes without a trace while hunting down a notorious serial killer in Boston. She is declared dead in absentia.

Six years later, she is found clinging for her life in a cabin in the woods. Emily has no memory of the years that she was missing. Her husband has remarried, and his new wife is raising her son. Soon after her reappearance, she finds herself implicated in a new series of murders.

Amazon Prime has yet to announce a release date for Absentia Season 3. Filming for the third season is currently underway in Bulgaria.
