Fans are still celebrating the fact that Spider-Man will be staying in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, thanks to a new deal made between Disney and Sony. This means that Marvel Studios will still produce the third Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland, who is also expected to appear in yet another MCU movie.
So, what could be the next Marvel movie that will feature Peter Parker? There are speculations that Spider-Man will be one of the major players in the highly anticipated Captain Marvel 2.
In August, fans were dismayed when it was announced that Sony is taking Spider-Man back after the studio failed to make an agreement with Disney on how to move forward with the character's films. The news was very disappointing for people who were hoping that Peter Parker would continue to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, considering that he was established as Iron Man's successor in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Unfortunately, the studios couldn't agree on how to proceed with the agreement that was established in 2015. This is why Sony decided to pull the plug on the Disney negotiations.
Luckily, things have changed since then. Tom Holland reportedly took part in negotiations and successfully convinced both studios to reconsider their agreement. The new deal confirms that Disney and Marvel Studios will produce the still-untitled Spider-Man 3. In addition to that, Peter Parker is now expected to appear in another Marvel Cinematic Universe film after his third solo movie.
So which MCU film will Spider-Man appear in? Fans have been hoping that Tom Holland would team up with Benedict Cumberbatch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the sequel to the Sorcerer Supreme's 2016 movie. After all, Peter Parker worked so well with Stephen Strange in Avengers: Infinity War. However, there are also speculations that Spider-Man will show up in Captain Marvel 2 starring Brie Larson.
Peter Parker and Carol Danvers only had a brief encounter in Avengers: Endgame, but some believe that the two could work well together in a Marvel movie. There is even a theory suggesting that making Carol appear alongside one of the more wholesome characters in the MCU will make her more likable for fans. However, it is important to point out that Captain Marvel 2 has not yet been officially announced. So, it is best to take this with a grain of salt. In the meantime, Spider-Man 3 is scheduled for release on July 16, 2021.
