The official release of Google Pixel 4 is just a few days away, and although we are all expecting to see the latest iteration to Google's flagship smartphones, it appears that we will be once again set for another surprise. If the latest claim about Google Pixel 4 is true, then we might not only see the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 Xl on October 15 but also the Google Pixel 4 5G. The most recent claim comes from the Japanese site Nikkei Asian Review.

According to the latest report, an industry insider revealed to them that the search engine giant is currently testing a 5G handset that will be launched during Google's October event. Additionally, it will be shown off along with a couple of two new smartphones, a notebook, and a smartwatch. What makes this report very interesting, aside from the new notebook and smartwatch, is the 5G smartphone.

Google is one of the few companies that have ventured into the 5G race, considering that the latest claim is true. Additionally, insider sources claim that the search engine giant's Google Pixel 4 5G is in test production phase while the 4G variants are in their full production phase. In other words, the Pixel 4G variants could be available, while the 5G model might not be released just yet.

The test production stage suggests that it is still in the early phase of production. In fact, Nikkei sources suggest that consumers might have to wait until spring to see the Pixel 4 5G variant along with a new budget Pixel smartphone. Google's move is plausible considering that at present, there is still scarcity when it comes to finding carriers with good 5G reception.

Also, existing smartphone models with 5G technology often eat up the battery life of the device. Google can avoid these issues and could release a better version of Pixel 4 5G, given ample time. So far, the search engine giant has not made a comment about the latest leak.

However, a Pixel 4 5G releasing in spring could make sense, aside from waiting for the 5G technology to progress and mature. This is because, all Google Fi's carrier partners including T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular will have 5G running in a much stable capacity and a Pixel 4 5G could serve as a prototype for those upgrades. It could also encourage other consumers to subscribe to Google Fi and leave their current network providers.

For now, this is just a mere leak, and since Google has not yet confirmed any of these, we suggest that you take it with skepticism. However, Nikkei Asia Review is not your ordinary site, and over the years, has made a reputation in revealing crucial information about upcoming technologies. Nikkei was the first site to reveal the existence of Nintendo Switch Lite.
