As a royal family member, the dukes and duchesses are bound to perform their royal duties. This means they need to be apart from their loved ones and go on state visits. At one point, the late Princess Diana was seen terribly sad when her then-boyfriend, Prince Charles, went to a five-week Australia tour in 1981. But, aside from leaving, was there another reason behind the Princess of Wales' loneliness?

In a series of sad Princess Diana snaps on Quora, Princes William and Harry's mother was said to break down in tears when she sent off Prince Charles to Australia. There was a sad look on her face when the Prince of Wales was walking farther away from her.

However, in the book of the royal author Anthony Holden titled Charles: A Biography, he claimed there was another reason as to why Princess Diana was sad when she stepped out in public. When she arrived at the palace at the time, Prince Charles reportedly received a phone call from Camilla Parker Bowles. The two talked on the phone for a short while, making her felt like the Duchess of Cornwall snatched the remaining minutes she had with her boyfriend before he left.

Princess Diana, then, left Prince Charles alone so that he could have some privacy while talking to Camilla. But, after a decade, she admitted that their conversation broke her heart. However, she still decided to marry the heir to the throne in the same year. Although their marriage ended up with a divorce, she managed to change one thing in the royal family rules.

Prince Charles was regularly left under the care of his grandparents or royal staff whenever his parents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, were away for state visits. Princess Diana didn't want to do the same thing on her children, as well as Prince Charles, who wanted to be a more hands-on father.

So, when it was time for the former couple to start their 45-day tour in Australia and New Zealand in 1983, they tagged along the nine-month-old Prince William. It was her first international trip, and the first time she would be away from her firstborn. Although this broke a royal precedent, it established a new normal, per E! News.

So, when Prince William already has his own family, he and wife Kate Middleton brought Prince George with them. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also brought baby Archie Harrison when they went to South Africa.
