Blindspot season 5 is officially happening on NBC, but this will also be the final installment of the series. The network renewed the show back in May, yet it kept the details of the series' final run under wraps. But, now, lead star Jaimie Alexander hinted the possible return of Luke Mitchell's character, Roman.

In her recent Instagram post, Alexander shared a photo of her and Mitchell and it looks like they were on set of Blindspot season 5. In the caption, the actress also wrote: "He's right behind me, isn't he?" This further fuelled fans' speculations, with some believing Mitchell, will be back at some point in the show's final run.

According to CarterMatt, however, there are different possibilities when it comes to the return of the character. If ever he's indeed coming back, then why would they spoil such a big twist on social media? Perhaps, Roman will only return on flashbacks scenes -- not in the present time. His appearance on the flashbacks only makes sense, especially since Blindspot season 5 would be the final installment.

While many were thrilled about Mitchell's potential come back this season, it's also worth mentioning that nothing is confirmed as of yet. He may be just visiting his co-stars before, and Alexander's post doesn't necessarily mean anything. Still, it would be nice having him back on the show, even though he's only on flashback scenes.

Meanwhile, the release date of Blindspot season 5 was not yet revealed. The majority of fans assumed the series would arrive in September or October 2019, yet the show wasn't included in NBC's fall schedule list. Now, some believed it would premiere in spring or early summer of 2020, and it will only have less than 13 episodes.

As for who's coming back, Alexander will surely reprise her role as Jane Doe, alongside Sullivan Stapleton as Kurt Weller. The new season also adds Julee Cerda with a recurring role, and she will be playing Ivy Sand. But, further details about the character are yet to be revealed. So, it remains unknown whether she's a friend or a foe.

There will be a two-month jump when Blindspot season 5 arrives, according to show creator, Martin Gero. That means the show's final run will explain and explore what happened to Weller, Patterson (played by Ashley Johnson), Edgar Reade (Rob Brown), and Audrey Zapata (Audrey Esparza) in season 4 finale, while Jane just watched the bomb went off from a distance.
