Royal aides are now criticizing the claim that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are "single-handedly" modernizing the monarchy. A senior staffer is opposing the argument, asserting Queen Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip, are the ones who modernized the monarch.
The senior royal staffer stressed Queen Elizabeth is the "most modernizing" monarch in the royal family's history, per Express. Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh are the ones responsible for transforming the monarchy from a medieval institution to a more modern organization. They did the first-ever reality series on television, broadcast the coronation, and opened the Buckingham Palace to the public.
The royal staffer's statement came after some sources close to Prince Harry and Meghan claimed that they are dragging to the royal family into the 21st century. Their friends even accused the monarchy of not giving them the proper credit for doing that. Sussexes' advisors, too, are said to be incapable of "harnessing their value."
A source told CNN that the institution around the royal family is full of people who are "afraid of and inexperienced at" how to help harness and deploy the value of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The insider, then, called them the couple who has "single-handedly modernized the monarchy."
These comments emerged after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle criticized the British media for all the criticisms they deal with on the ITV documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey. Here, the duke also talked about his relationship with his brother, Prince William, admitting the rift between them.
According to Daily Mail Online, Prince Harry's revelation, reportedly, triggered a response from Prince William. An insider told BBC that the Duke of Cambridge is worried that his sibling and his wife might be in a "fragile place."
There was a report that said Prince William and Prince Harry already talked to each other privately after the latter's ITV interview. After seeing his younger brother upset in the show, a senior royal source revealed that Kate Middleton's husband is concerned, as anyone who watched the documentary.
However, the source from Prince Harry's camp said that he was only giving an "honest answer" to the show's host, Tom Bradby. The tipster added that any sibling would surely be concerned about the revelation.
The royal commentators, too, revealed Queen Elizabeth herself and the senior royals are all "very worried" with the direction Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are taking. BBC royal correspondent Jonny Dymond even added that the royal family would be pretty horrified with the interview. In addition, royal commentator Penny Junor believed that the couple's decision to tell it all was a big mistake.
