A classic Doctor nemesis is believed to be making a comeback in Doctor Who Season 12. It is speculated that the Daleks will return in the 12th installment of the BBC sci-fi series after a photo and a video of the villains circulated online.
Doctor Who fans are becoming edgy for not watching brand new episodes this year, except for the New Year's special. Hence, any information about the upcoming season can get them all hype.
Speculations that the Daleks are back in town have emerged after The Doctor's enemies were spotted at Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge recently. The Daleks are seen along with what appears to be a TV crew.
According to Clifton Suspension Bridge Twitter account, the bridge was closed for maintenance work but fans have their suspicion. Some fans channeled their detective skills and took photos and videos of what is going on at the bridge.
Series fans noted the difference of a particular Dalek in the shared photos. The one mutant seems to be a newly designed model while the others are older gold plated Daleks from the 2005 series. The new villain is also the one that got destroyed in the filming. This sparked speculation among fans if viewers could expect another Daleks civil war in Season 12.
Another post from a fan site on Instagram featured an image of the Daleks and teased that the onlookers who saw the filming described it as a Christmas Special. The last time the iconic villains were seen on screen was in the New Year's Special.
The Clifton Suspension Bridge confirmed that the historic landmark became a location site for a filming during the bridge maintenance schedule but refused to divulge what show filmed in there. BBC also remained tight-lipped over the leaked filming photo and clip. The network has yet to release an official announcement on whether or not the Daleks are making a comeback.
DigitalSpy, however, noted that a spokeswoman for the series did tease to watch out for a future announcement from the show. It sounds like a huge announcement about Doctor Who Season 12 is about to drop soon. Until then viewers will have to wait for confirmation if there will be a new storyline for the Daleks in the 12th outing.
Meanwhile, Doctor Who Season 12 showrunner Chris Chibnall previously vowed to give fans a fresh approach in the next installment. Despite the announcement, several old faces are expected to return next season. Broadchurch actress Jodie Whittaker is confirmed to reprise her role as the thirteenth and first-ever female Time Lord. Other main cast members such as Bradley Walsh (Graham O'Brien), Tosin Cole (Ryan Sinclair), and Mandip Gill (Yasmin Khan) will also return next season.
Doctor Who Season 12 is expected to premiere in early 2020. It will have ten episodes.
