The Umbrella Academy season 2 is, officially, happening on Netflix. The series is based on Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá's comic book series of the same name, and it was received well by viewers as soon as it arrived on the streaming platform. Right now, there are only a few details about the second installment. But, here's everything we know so far.

Netflix officially renewed The Umbrella Academy season 2. So, fans shouldn't be worried about the series' future. There are three volumes of The Umbrella Academy written by Way and Bá: Apocalypse Suite, Dallas, and Hotel Oblivion. That only means the loyal audience will probably get more seasons, though nothing is confirmed as of yet.

In June 2019, the cast began filming The Umbrella Academy season 2. Just recently, Netflix posted a photo of the cast, teasing fans the new installment is "coming soon". It should be noted, however, that showrunner Steve Blackman said it takes about 18 months to make each series. So, we could expect the arrival of the second season in mid or end of 2020.

As for the returning characters, the Hargreeves kids are all coming back in The Umbrella Academy season 2. That means Ellen Page will return as Vanya, alongside Tom Hopper as Luther, David Castañeda as Diego, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, Justin H. Min as Ben, and Aidan Gallagher as Number Five.

There are also new faces in the latest installment. According to Deadline, Marin Ireland, Ritu Arya, and Yusuf Gatewood are the new addition in The Umbrella Academy season 2. Ireland will play the role of Sissy, who is a no-nonsense and fearless Texan mother. Arya will play Lila, someone who has a twisted sense of humor. Gatewood is Raymond, who is a devoted husband and almost everyone wants to know him.

As for the plot of The Umbrella Academy season 2, it will likely pick up the events happened in the season 1 finale. These events will particularly have a huge impact on Vanya moving forward. In an interview with Den Of Geek, Page discussed her character's future, teasing she's like Vanya 2.0 -- less repressed in a good and bad way.

In the same interview, Hopper teased that time travel is one of the important themes and will be a huge one of the upcoming season. Sheehan, on the other hand, shared what would be his character's journey in the second installment. The actor said Klaus will constantly emerge and his state of change will bring more excitement in the new season.
