Outlander season 5 is arriving next year and a lot of fans are excited for the return of the series. The fifth installment is expected to be the most intense one, with many are worried about the lead couple, Jamie and Claire. These two have been through a lot. But, will they separate again in the new season?
Over the past years, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) went through some big trials and tribulations. The two were separated by time during the past four seasons, and Express reported they will be tested and separate once again in Outlander season 5.
However, the exact plotline of the imminent new installment remains unknown since the series would be diverting from books. The upcoming new episodes will, reportedly, be taking content from both The Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon.
In these books, Jamie and Claire separated before coming back together. Jamie was ordered to form a militia and search his godfather Murtagh Fraser (Duncan Lacroix). It seems like he will be leaving Claire at home again as he embarks on his mission.
Meanwhile, Balfe teased big challenges are waiting for the couple in Outlander season 5. During the New York Comic-Con this year, the actress hinted that, while Jamie and Claire will be closer than ever, some outside entities will continue testing them.
The good news is that fans will be seeing more of the couple as it was confirmed the show will have two additional seasons. That means loyal fans will get a sixth installment as well. In May 2018, Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht said, in a statement, that Jamie and Claire are coming back to face new challenges, adversaries, and adventures in season 5 and 6.
In another related report, some cast members of Outlander season 5 attend the BAFTA Scotland Awards, including Heughan, Balfe, Richard Rankin (Roger), and Sophie Skelton (Brianna). Everyone appeared to have a good time as EE shared a clip wherein the cast played a game of Favorites.
While they didn't tease what else is coming in Outlander season 5, the four still showed their fun sides. Heughan, Balfe, Skelton played a game together, while Rankin had a separate video. This event is a refresher for them since they got time to get out, celebrate, and enjoy themselves as they get through the waning weeks of production on the latest installment.
Outlander season 5 will premiere on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, on Starz.
