Whitney Houston's former personal assistant and alleged lesbian lover Robyn Crawford has finally broken her silence about the real status of her relationship with the singer. Crawford is set to release a tell-all memoir where she talked about Houston and their relationship.
Crawford's book, A Song for You: My Life with Whitney Houston, is due for release next week. In the book, Crawford talked about how she and Houston first met when they were teenagers in East Orange, New Jersey. From then on, they were inseparable.
Crawford became part of the singer's life during her rise to stardom, her marriage to Bobby Brown until she died in 2012. Houston rose to fame in 1985. However, after a tumultuous marriage to Brown, the singer couldn't put her drug problems behind her.
Houston passed away at the age of 48 on the eve of the 2012 Grammy Awards ceremony. The coroner's report showed that she accidentally drowned in the bathtub, with heart disease and cocaine use as contributing factors.
In Amazon's description of Robyn Crawford's book, she is described as Houston's trusted and loyal "best friend." The book promises to reveal untold stories that shed light on the complex life of Houston.
"Finally, the person who knew her best sets the record straight," the description stated. The book will hit bookselves on Nov. 12.
For years, there have been rumors about the "I Will Always Love You" singer's sexuality. Crawford used to be on her side as a friend and a personal assistant.
In several biographies of Whitney Houston and those related to her, it was revealed that members of her family have expressed disapproval of the singer's closeness with Crawford. Some sources told Whitney & Bobbi Kristina: The Deadly Price of Fame author Ian Halperin that the singer's mother, Cissy, did not approve of her daughter's close relationship with Crawford.
She, however, never addressed the gay rumors that have been swirling around about her daughter. But, in Cissy's memoir, Remembering Whitney, she admitted that Crawford was the first person to tell her about her daughter's drug habit as she is worried about the singer.
Houston's father, John, told Halperin that his daughter's inner circle pleaded to her to spend less time with Crawford. Crawford's father, Dennis, on the other hand, said he knew her daughter and Whitney had been romantically involved for years.
Her former bodyguard claimed Crawford threatened to tell all about her relationship with Houston after the singer married Bobby Brown in the summer of 1992. In his own book, Every Little Step, Brown wrote that he tossed his wife's overbearing and "disrespectful" assistant out of their home. Houston allegedly cut off Crawford in 2000.
