It has been more than 15 years now since fans last saw Friends on small screens. As it happened, the series ended in 2004 with Season 10 as its final installment.
While the fandom has been able to rewatch all episodes and installments of Friends on Netflix, many people cannot help but wonder if there will be a new installment for the show. Thankfully, though, sources and insiders have been claiming that the show might return for a reunion special soon.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, several sources have attested that the six main cast members of Friends, along with its original creators, are in the "talks of reunion" to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The said reunion special was also revealed to happen on HBO Max's new and upcoming streaming platform.
Based on assertions, the reunion special will be an "unscripted" installment. It was further alleged that all of the core cast members will be present. So, fans can likely expect Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow.
While the majority of the fandom is already looking forward to the said reunion, sources noted that the deal is still "far from done." There are still a lot of agreements to be made before everyone could move forward to have a reunion special of the series.
The sources were very sure of the information. Regardless, the publication still went to seek responses on HBO Max's and Warner Bros. TV's part.
Unfortunately, both parties reportedly declined to comment on the matter. So, no one knows yet if Friends' reunion special will truly happen.
CBS News also released the narrative recently. As per the platform, a reunion special will not be "entirely surprising." This is because the show has been well-loved by fans since then. Not to mention, they have acquired new sets of followers and fans in recent times, thanks to Netflix.
However, it was further revealed that all 236 episodes of the show will no longer be available on the streaming giant once the year ends. As stated, Friends will move to a new platform in 2020.
The new platform was revealed to be HBO Max's upcoming streaming platform. Accordingly, the launch is likely to happen shortly before or after 2019 concludes.
Although there are still no assurances on the previously reported reunion special, fans and supporters are positive that it will happen soon. Besides, even Jennifer Aniston recently shared that "something is up," when asked about the future of Friends on small screens, despite not knowing what it is yet.
