An image purporting to show President Donald Trump kissing White House aide Natalie Harp on a golf course spread rapidly across social media this week, fueling claims of an affair despite no credible evidence that the photograph is authentic-or even that the woman pictured is Harp.
The image circulated primarily through unverified social-media accounts and wasn't published or authenticated by major news organizations or professional photo agencies. Searches of credible reporting surrounding Trump's recent golf appearances have produced no documentation of the purported encounter, while several reports examining the image have concluded that it is unverified and shows indications of being generated or altered using artificial intelligence.
That distinction quickly became obscured online. Users on X and other platforms circulated blurry and higher-resolution versions while making claims about Trump's marriage to first lady Melania Trump and his relationship with Harp, even as other users pointed to apparent visual abnormalities and questioned whether the scene existed at all.
At present, there is no verified evidence establishing that Trump kissed Harp on a golf course or that the two have a romantic relationship. The photograph's origin hasn't been reliably established, and the absence of an authenticated original makes definitive forensic analysis difficult.
The image gained traction partly because Harp genuinely spends considerable time near the president. The 35-year-old executive assistant is frequently photographed accompanying Trump, helps handle information reaching him and has become known as the "human printer" because of her practice of supplying him with paper copies of news reports and social-media material.
Authentic photographs of Trump and Harp together can therefore make fabricated images more difficult for casual viewers to recognize. Another manipulated photograph of Harp circulated this month showing exaggerated teeth and gums; Lead Stories traced it to an authentic photograph and found that the image had been altered using AI tools.
The golf-course image appeared as attention surrounding Harp had already intensified. Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia drew criticism in August after invoking her while attacking Trump's conduct in office.
"He golfs and trades stocks. See, he doesn't want to do the job. He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the emir of Qatar," Ossoff said, according to reports documenting the remarks. Republicans accused him of insinuating an improper relationship, while Ossoff subsequently emphasized that Harp and other White House aides are adult public officials paid by taxpayers.
Harp's professional relationship with Trump has also been examined because of her unusually close access to the president. She helps manage his social-media activity and has frequently traveled with him, including during his recent visit to Ireland.
Trump spent part of that trip at his Doonbeg golf resort, where he attended the Irish Open and presented the trophy to winner Shane Lowry. That appearance was extensively photographed and covered by major news organizations, but credible coverage of the event hasn't produced evidence supporting the purported kissing photograph.
Harp's presence in Ireland had already become an online controversy before the kissing image circulated. Journalist Aaron Rupar posted an authentic agency photograph of her on the trip with the caption, "Look who made the trip to Ireland! #TravelWithNatalie."
The White House Rapid Response 47 account responded: "President Trump does, in fact, travel with staff. Aaron, on the other hand, is a sick, deluded freak (in his 40s) who sits behind a keyboard and posts creepy things like this."
Separate reports about Harp have provided additional material for online speculation without establishing a romantic relationship. Trump biographer Michael Wolff has reported that Harp wrote intensely personal letters to Trump, including one saying "you are all that matters to me." Those accounts concern Harp's reported communications and shouldn't be treated as evidence that Trump reciprocated romantically or that an affair occurred.
