Meredith Grey is back in the operating room in the upcoming Grey's Anatomy Season 16 fall finale. Fans may also expect a huge cliffhanger before the series goes on a break.

Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) will receive a warm welcome from the staff of Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital on her first day back at work. The mother-of-three surgeon is back at work after the medical board decided on her license and Bailey (Chandra Wilson) rehired her.

Though Mer is back at her happy place, her relationship with Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), however, is on edge. Upon her return, DeLuca asks Mer why she didn't tell him that Bailey rehired her. Meredith replies she could have told him the good news if only Andrew is not busy dumping her. The exchange between the two seems to be a glimpse of more clashes that are about to spark between the former lovers.

Elsewhere, Jo (Camilla Luddington) will deal with a case that could bring back some memories that Alex's (Justin Chambers) wife has been trying to overcome in the past months. Jo will receive a call from Station 19 about an abandoned baby. She will rush to the station as the Safe Haven volunteer to check on the baby.

It can be recalled that Jo recently met her birth mother. She learned that her mother gave her up because she can't stand looking at her as she was born as a result of rape and she abhors Jo's father. Her mother's revelation puts Jo into a severe depression and shuts everyone out, including her husband Alex. She later admitted herself to the treatment facility.

Meanwhile, it looks like Jackson (Jesse Williams) and Vic (Barrett Doss) are ready to take their relationship to the next level. Maggie (Kelly McCreary), on the other hand, seems like still dealing with the death of her cousin. In the trailer for Grey's Anatomy Season 16 fall finale, the Grey-Sloan highly-skilled cardiothoracic surgeon is seen panicking while performing surgery.

In the upcoming episode, pregnant surgeons Bailey and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) will also exchange notes about their situation. However, it seems like Bailey or someone from Station 19 will have a medical emergency as Ben (Jason George) is seen in Episode 9 trailer entering the hospital with concern on his face while Jo is standing outside the hospital with the baby on her arms. Grey's Anatomy Season 16 fall finale airs on November 21 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
