BIGBANG's Daesung needs to pay 1.2 billion KRW ( roughly 1.025 million USD) in taxes for the operation of illegal adult businesses in a building that he owned. The building became the subject of an investigation during the time Daesung was fulfilling his mandatory service for allegations of illegal activities happening in the property.
According to a report by Channel A news, authorities billed Daesung 1.2 billion KRW, broken down to acquisition tax, property tax, and additional local taxes. Levies were also imposed on the amount due to the presence of unlicensed adult businesses in the building. There were no declarations made about them on records submitted to the government.
It can be recalled that Daesung's image was questioned when reports surfaced about illegal businesses operating inside a building that he owned in the Gangnam area. The BIGBANG member denied any knowledge of illegal operations happening within his property.
However, a source reportedly alleged that Daesung was aware of the illegal businesses operating within the building even before purchasing it. Based on the information, Daesung even sought legal advice on the matter before finalizing the purchase. The BIGBANG member reportedly asked about the liabilities of the building owner if such businesses were found within the premises and inquired about the possibility of kicking out the tenants.
Lawyers reportedly advised the singer that it would be difficult to evict such businesses from the property, unlike regular tenants. The source said that based on Daesung's questions, it would be hard to deny that he knew about the existence of the illegal adult entertainment businesses in his property.
The Seoul Regional Tax Service is currently investigating the entertainment venues for suspicions of individual consumption tax evasion.
Based on the same report by Channel A, Daesung made a 5 billion KRW loan from a loan company and used the building as collateral. It was believed that Daesung took out the loan pay the original bank loan he secured for the building, which he originally acquired for 31 billion KRW in 2017.
Daesung was discharged from the military this month at the same time as his fellow BIGBANG member, Taeyang.
