Camila Cabello knew since 2015 that she and Shawn Mendes have romantic chemistry. The "Havana" hitmaker shared the moment when she first felt an intimate connection to her now-boyfriend.

The two have been friends since 2014. They sparked dating rumors when they released "I Know What You Did Last Summer" the following year.

Cabello revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that during that time, she and Mendes already feel something for each other. They knew they would be more than friends but they don't know what to do with those feelings since they are both too young. Cabello is 18 at the time while the "If I Can't Have You" crooner is 17 and their careers are just starting to take off.

"It was this awkward thing where we both liked each other, but we weren't together. It was just weird," she said.

The former Fifth Harmony singer said after their first duet, she and Shawn did not hang out again because of their busy schedules. Then, the two got a chance to work again on another song, "Señorita."

Rumors that the two are an item started again when they released "Señorita" in June along with its sultry music video. It was followed by a confirmation that Cabello broke up with her then-boyfriend, Matthew Hussey. The buzz about Camila and Shawn gets louder when they had a steamy performance of "Señorita" at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards in August.

The two eventually confirmed their relationship which Mendes said officially started on the Fourth of July. It was also the first time they were spotted holding hands. Since then, the two have been displaying in public their affection towards each other.

Meanwhile, Cabello recently paid tribute to Mendes with her upcoming song "Used To This," off from her third album, Romance. During an initimate performance in Los Angeles, the singer explained that the song is about the feeling of being friends with somebody for a long time, and then they started dating.

The couple was also recently spotted packing some PDA moments while heading to a sushi hotspot Katsuya in Studio City. They were also photographed getting cozy while watching a Los Angeles Clippers and Toronto Raptors game.

Cabello is set to release her upcoming album Romance on December 6, 2019. It will be followed by her Romance Tour in 2020. Mendes, on the other hand, recently collaborated with Taylor Swift for the remix version of her hit track "Lover."
