MAMAMOO was crowed the winner for this week's M Countdown and beat GOT7 to bag the top prize of the night.
According to a report by Soompi, MAMAMOO's HIP prevailed over GOT7's You Calling My Name in a special episode of the M Countdown show. This week did not feature any new performances since it was devoted to the nominees of the Mnet Asian Music Awards.
MAMAMOO recently made its comeback and held a showcase for their album reality in BLACK.
In an earlier interview, Hwasa described the title track, HIP, as a song that shared the value of loving oneself and living confidently without caring what others may think. Hwasa said that she liked the song because it was fun and edgy at the same time. So, MAMAMOO was able to channel this vibe with the delivery.
Most importantly, the song delivered a light and comfortable approach to their message of not basing one's self-worth on the opinion of others.
HIP also showcased the different personalities of members Hwasa, Solar, Moonbyul, and Wheein, which helped them show off their strengths to the fans.
"I think that we have different personalities, but each person knows what part fits them well on stage. Many people agree with that part, so I think it creates synergy. Many women say that our lyrics are refreshing, and many people enjoy," MAMAMOO Solar said.
For the preparations for the album, Solar shared that the intense choreography created by Lia Kim for HIP required the members to use headsets in their performance for the first time. She admitted that the choreography was very difficult and even brought her to the point of tears. However, the members soldiered through the challenge and made it through to the end.
MAMAMOO's latest M Showdown victory was a happy addition to their win for Mnet's Queendom last October. According to Wheein, the members became very emotional in receiving the previous award because it was unexpected, another report from Soompi disclosed.
"We're in the process of preparing for the comeback show because we want to do a good job. We'll prepare it in a cool way so that it's really awesome and high quality," she said in an interview.
MAMAMOO members said that they were thankful for the fans' support in the five years that they have been together. They promised that they would continue to look for more ways to deliver something new to their supporters. They said that they would work on more songs to cheer on many people and deliver enjoyment.
