Dakota Johnson shared her thoughts about her The Peanut Butter Falcon co-star Shia LaBeouf's arrest in July 2017 while filming the movie. The Fifty Shades of Grey actress said it is "terrifying and difficult" for the actor.
During a guest appearance at The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Johnson was asked by Ellen how she felt about LaBeouf's arrest while in Georgia to film their movie. Johnson admitted that she felt sad and "protective" of her co-star as she knows it was a terrifying experience. She, however, thought that the event also became a turning point for LaBeouf.
"It was a really kind of sad and I felt very protective of him and I felt... that's a really terrifying and difficult journey for somebody to experience and I felt really aware of that," Johnson said.
Dakota Johnson added that she is the kind of person who doesn't condemn those who made mistakes in their life. Instead, she wishes that they would get through it.
It can be recalled that in July 2017, LaBeouf was arrested in Savannah, Georgia, where he is filming The Peanut Butter Falcon. He was caught on video using racist language towards a black police officer. LeBeouf was charged with public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, and obstruction of justice.
After his arrest, LaBeouf issued a public apology via Twitter where he also revealed that he is "struggling with addiction." In his tweet, the actor said he is ashamed of his behavior and is not making any excuses.
It was LaBeouf's second arrest in 2017. Earlier that year, the Transformers actor was arrested when he got into an altercation over his anti-Trump art installation. At the time, his art piece was displayed at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, New York.
Johnson and LeBeouf's movie The Peanut Butter Falcon was released in the U.S. in August. It follows the life of Zak, a man with Down syndrome (Zack Gottsagen) who escapes from an assisted living facility. He becomes friends with fisherman Tyler (LaBeouf) while trying to chase his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. Johnson plays the role of a social worker who is searching for Zak.
Meanwhile, the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull actor gave credit to the Georgia police officer who booked him. He acknowledged the officer during his acceptance speech at the Hollywood Film Awards earlier this month for his movie, Honey Boy.
The film is based on the actor's life. LeBeouf wrote the script for the movie during his time at the rehab.
