Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to take a six-week break after their ITV documentary was released and sued a couple of publications. While it is unclear if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have decided to take this break months ago or just recently, they are heavily criticized for this decision.
This will be the first time that Prince Harry will be away from the royal family during the Christmas season. With that said, royal fans are upset that he chose to spend the holidays with Meghan Markle’s family considering his grandmother’s old age.
Singer-songwriter Sir Rod Stewart, who is one of Britain’s famous faces, shared his dismay that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not be celebrating Christmas with the Royal Family this year. Just like most royal fans, the music legend pointed out that Queen Elizabeth is not getting any younger and that the Duke of Sussex should have considered that.
“The Queen is 93. I flew around the world to be with my mom and dad at Christmas because I knew they didn’t have many left,” Rod Steward said. “I was disappointed Harry and Meghan decided not to spend Christmas with the Queen. If I was Harry, I’d think there was plenty of time in the future to have Christmases on my own or with Meghan’s mom.”
Royal fans are just as disappointed as Rod Stewart and shared their frustrations on the online forum Quora. When one netizen asked, “Why will Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry not be spending Christmas with the Queen?” many discussed how they didn’t like the couple’s decision at all.
“I am completely flabbergasted and upset that PRINCE (please note he is a prince of this royal family and as such has certain demands made upon him that aren’t terrifying or difficult) PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle will be here in the States for Christmas,” one fan wrote. “This is so wrong of them. Of him! Harry needs to act like a member of this royal family that feeds, clothes, loves, and supports him.”
However, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said that the Queen supported Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision. Despite Her Majesty’s approval, royal fans expected more from the Duke of Sussex. They feel like he should cherish his time with his grandparents more because they are now in their 90s.
