Doctor Who season 12 is arriving on New Year's Day and it will kick off with a two-part episode. There are a lot of exciting happenings when the new installment premieres, with the executive producer teasing the return of "different" and relentless" Cybermen.
According to series' showrunner Chris Chibnall, viewers should expect something new with the emotionless cyborgs when they clash with Jodie Whittaker's character in Doctor Who season 12. In a report via Radio Times, Chibnall revealed he wanted to see the 13th Doctor fights against the Cybermen.
He also said that Cybermen are an important part of rogues' gallery. This season, Chibnall confirmed they'd done slightly something different with them, and there's a particular story that he wanted to tell. He further teased that they are "relentless," and they just don't stop.
The latest trailer of Doctor Who season 12 also showed a glimpse of a new-look Cyberman. The clip teased that the cyborg is in bad shape, rusted, and damaged from different battles. Perhaps, this is what Chibnall meant when he said that Cybermen would be "different" in the new installment.
Cybermen are considered as one of the best monsters within the world of Doctor Who. They are terrifying and their determination is hard to ignore. It looks like the TARDIS team will face a "relentless" and "different" version of Cybermen, making the new season even more exciting.
Previously, series star Bradley Walsh, who plays Graham, hinted Doctor Who season 12 is the scariest installment so far since it comes with "absolutely terrifying new monsters." He warned viewers that they should be prepared since the monsters are terrifying and will make their hair curl.
Meanwhile, Jodie Whittaker will be back as the 13th Doctor in the latest installment, marking her second season in the series. Other returning cast members include Mandip Gill as Yasmin, Bradley Walsh as Graham, and Tosin Cole as Ryan.
Stephen Fry, Lenny Henry, Goran Višnjić, and Robert Glenister are some of the guest stars set to appear this season. Both Fry and Henry will be involved in the opening series, playing Bones and Broadchurch, respectively. Also, James Buckley and Anjli Mohindra will, reportedly, be the new additions this season.
Doctor Who season 12 will premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 1, on BBC America. The sci-fi series will kick off with its two-part episode. After that, it will go on its regular schedule on Sunday, Jan. 5, at 8/7c.
