Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, were expecting U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at Clarence House last Dec. 3. The couples were scheduled to have tea time together before Trump headed out to the Buckingham Palace reception with the Queen.
But Trump apparently arrived a full hour late to Prince Charles' residence that royal expert Russel Myers claimed Prince Charles and Camilla could protest this delay. Speaking on the show Lorraine, Myers said that Trump was certainly a bad house guest for making the royals wait for a full hour.
A spokesperson for Clarence House, however, told CNN that Prince Charles and Trump have "a good working relationship." Apparently, this started when the president was in the U.K. for his state visit last June.
Back then, Prince Charles, Camilla and the Trumps shared dinner at the Winfield House. They also had tea at Clarence House just like this current visit, where they had 15 minutes of catching up.
Speaking with ITV, Trump said that he and Prince Charles talked about climate change during the brief time last Tuesday. The president said that it was mostly the future King of England who expressed his thoughts.
Trump said that Prince Charles wants "to make sure future generations have climate that is good climate" to which he agrees. He also underscored that the royal is really into this issue.
Despite what seemed like a good reunion between Prince Charles and Trump, the internet still thinks that the future monarch flipped the bird on the controversial U.S. leader. Tweeters online are convinced that Prince Charles subtly gave Trump the finger while he was lightly touching his eyes.
Prince Charles and Trump have known each other since 2005. Apparently, they met when the royals went to the U.S. for their tour.
It isn't the first time Prince Charles talked to Trump about climate change though. During the president's visit to London over the summer, the royal, who is also an advocate for the environment, apparently talked to Trump about climate change for 90 minutes. Though quite vocal about this issue, Prince Charles said that he will refrain from expressing his opinions once he is King.
Meanwhile, the American leader said that he'd always tell Prince Charles once he started about the climate that America has one of the cleanest climates in the world. Trump is a known climate change sceptic.
