Upon marrying the second person in line to the throne in 2011, Kate Middleton immediately received the title of Duchess of Cambridge, which also applied to Prince William's end as he became the Duke of Cambridge. However, these titles will not be permanent. As it happens, the duke and duchess will receive new titles once Prince Charles ascends to the throne.

According to The Sun, when Prince Charles receives the title of King, his current title as Prince of Wales will be passed on to the next Heir Apparent, which, in this case, will be Prince William. Accordingly, his wife, Kate Middleton will become the Princess of Wales.

While the Duke of Cambridge will certainly become the next king after Prince Charles, many are wondering what title will Kate use when it happens. Some royal fans believe that the Duchess of Cambridge will be soon called as Queen Catherine. Others, however, argue that Kate will not be a queen.

The truth is - these statements are both correct. As per the publication, Kate Middleton will become queen in the future. But, she will not have the same role as Queen Elizabeth II.

The reason being is that the current Duchess of Cambridge is not a direct "descendant" of the queen. She only became part of the royal family because of her union with Prince William.

Nevertheless, she will still have the title of queen when her husband ascends to the throne.

Once crowned, Kate Middleton will be the new Queen Consort. The last person who had the title was the Queen Mother, Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon since she was married to Prince Albert, the Duke of York.

When Prince Albert died and Queen Elizabeth II succeeded her father, the Queen Consort's title was replaced with Queen Mother. Since then, no one used the title. But, Kate will certainly obtain it in the future.

It is worth noting, though, that Kate's becoming queen does not have anything to do with her apparent and impressive approval ratings from the British public. Although the duchess just comes next to her husband, Prince William in terms of the positive ratings, her future title as the next Queen Consort will simply happen because she is married to the next king.

On the Duchess of Cornwall's end, reports have been stating that she will not have the Queen Consort title. As it happened, disputes have been apparent due to her and Prince Charles' history.

While many are certain that Duchess Camilla will be called the Princess Consort once Prince Charles becomes king, some royal experts are noting that no confirmations have been made yet as to what title the duchess would use.
