Queen Elizabeth II and the rest of the senior members of the royal family are known to celebrate their Christmas season in Sandringham. For many decades now, this has been the tradition of the royals. However, younger royals, like Kate Middleton and Prince William are reportedly deviating a little bit from their family's traditions.
As per reports, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge always have a mixture of traditions when it comes to celebrating Christmas. According to Hello! magazine, the royal couple likes to incorporate the traditions of the royal family, the Middleton clan, and their own preferences as the Cambridge family during the holiday season.
Based on claims, the members of the royal family normally arrive at Sandringham Estate in the afternoon of the 24th. By evening, they would all gather to enjoy the festivities as they all wait for midnight. In honor of their German links, it was said that the royal family always open their gifts during the eve of Christmas.
Some royal experts also shared that the royal family would then attend a church service the following day. Afterward, they would all return to the estate and feast on a "fine lunch."
However, the case on Kate Middleton and Prince William's part is reportedly a little different from the norm. As it happens, it was revealed that the Cambridge couple prefers for their kids to open their gifts on the night of Christmas Day, which they obtained from the Middleton clan.
Aside from the schedule of opening their gifts, Pop Sugar also revealed that the young royals, including Kate Middleton and Prince William, as well as Prince Harry, love to get active on the day of Christmas. Given that the Cambridge couple is very active and "outdoor-sy," it is not surprising why they celebrate the holiday this way.
Several sources claimed that, in the past, Prince William and Prince Harry would normally have soccer games with the staff of the Sandringham Estate during the eve of Christmas. Similarly, the Middletons also love to "get physical" during Christmas. In fact, Kate Middleton was spotted with her brother, James Middleton, in 2009 playing tennis on the day of Christmas.
But, ahead of the Christmas Day, many sources and experts attested that Kate Middleton and Prince William, especially the duchess and the kids, love to prepare for the holiday weeks prior to the festivities. Just like Queen Elizabeth II, who was reportedly signing Christmas cards during the summer, the Duchess of Cambridge is fond of doing Christmas shopping ahead of the season.
In terms of the gifts, the Cambridge family is said to "opt" for artisanal and vintage items. Whether they may be crafts or produces, Kate Middleton and Prince William prefer them, even their gifts for the kids.
