Queen Elizabeth II has been known to have many hobbies and interests since she was a child. One of which is the same interest as her granddaughter-in-law, Kate Middleton. This interest helped the Duchess of Cambridge bond with the Queen over the years.

The longest-living English monarch and Prince William's wife are both passionate photographers. The Queen has a long-standing interest in taking photos, as can be seen in many biopics about her. In some of these stories, it has been mentioned that Elizabeth cherisher her first camera as it was a gift from her late father, King George VI.

According to royal sources, the Queen keeps photo albums of the pictures of her travels, her family, and pets wherever she travels. The only time the Queen can't make time to take some snaps is whenever she goes on a state visit to a foreign country.

The Duchess of Cambridge, on the other hand, does study photography. She has been known for taking pictures of her family, such as the official birthday photos of her three children. Kate is in photography, not only for leisure but for economical and privacy reasons as well.

This common interest of both Queen Elizabeth II and Kate Middleton made them closer over the years. In addition, the Queen uses the same brand of camera that Kate also preferred.

Earlier this year, the Queen passed on to Kate her patronage to the Royal Photographic Society. This honors Kate's passion for photography.

The monarch has been a patron of the Royal Photographic Society for 67 years. Kate, on the other hand, is already an honorary lifetime member of the society when she received the role of a patron.

The Queen also handed over to the Duchess of Cambridge another important charity role, and that is as a patron on Family Action charity, which the Queen held for 65 years. The Duchess' role will be focussed on early intervention and helping children during the early stages of their lives. These new responsibilities for Kate only show how the Queen trusted her on her role as the future queen.

Kate and William began dating in 2003. But she only got to meet Her Majesty after five years of dating William. However, she easily got the seal of approval from the Queen. Since joining the royal family in 2011, Kate also bonded with the Queen with their love of the outdoors.

"The Queen loves the outdoors, she's happiest when she's wearing her tweeds out there, with her horses and this is something she shares with Kate," royal commentator Erin Hill told People Magazine (via The Sun).
