Doctor Who season 12 is set to return on the small screen on New Year's Day. Since the series is now nearing its premiere, there were a lot of details as to what viewers can expect. The Daleks, in particular, are rumored to be making an appearance in the new installment, and series creator Chris Chibnall has something to say about this subject.

In an interview with the Entertainment Weekly, Chibnall was asked whether or not the presence of Daleks will be felt in Doctor Who season 12. The series creator said he wouldn't expect the famed characters making an appearance, and viewers can expect Cybermen instead. Daleks are one of the most iconic monsters in the series, and some were disappointed they're not part of the new season.

But, as per CarterMatt, there's also a chance that Chibnall is just trolling, and that Daleks will appear at some point in Doctor Who season 12. The outlet noted that why would the series creator announce too soon that Daleks won't be appearing. Regardless of whether or not we get to see these creatures, there are still a lot of cool things to anticipate.

In the same interview, Chibnall also teased about the other settings in the new season. He said they broke the budget and went to Gloucester Cathedral and even went to Lake Geneva at one point. The series creator also confirmed that the Judoon are back in the latest installment. They will investigate a big case that's going to be "quite seismic."

In another related report, it looks like Yaz is in danger in the first episode of Doctor Who season 12. A clip of episode 1, titled "Spyfall," showed the character lying in the hospital bed. They initially assumed that she's in a coma, but they soon discovered something more serious happened to here, in which her DNA has been rewritten.

Now, some speculate that Yaz might be a different person when she wakes up since her DNA has been rewritten. The 13th Doctor needs to figure out what happened to Yaz before it's too late. The good news is that she isn't alone in resolving this matter, as the promo showed she has other companions to help her solve Yaz's case.

Doctor Who season 12 kicks off with its two-part episode on Wednesday, Jan. 1, on BBC America. Then, after the premiere, the series will go on its usual timeslot, which is on Sunday, Jan. 5, at 8/7c.
