The first and the second part of Crisis on Infinite Earths recently aired on The CW, and there are a lot of unexpected twists here, especially for Oliver Queen, a.k.a. Green Arrow. Supergirl kicks off the first part of the crossover event, and it featured the unfortunate death of Stephen Amell's character.

Viewers were aware that Oliver will die at some point during the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, but they didn't expect he'll be gone too soon. Even the Monitor, while he knew Green Arrow was going to die, he was shocked since it wasn't supposed to happen that way.

During the first part, it's apparent that Earth-38 was doomed. So, the Monitor ordered all heroes to retreat to Earth-1. However, Oliver ignored the request and kept fighting the shadow army until he dies. His death might be a bitter moment for everyone, but he did a heroic act until his dying breath.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Marc Guggenheim said they're trying to make a "big shocker" at the center of this story. He explained that the biggest twist here is not Oliver's death, but the timing of him dying instead.

Guggenheim said they knew viewers are expecting to see Oliver dying in the climax in the fifth hour. So, they decided to change that and killed him off in the first part. He added they accomplish two things: surprising the audience and letting them know that "no one is safe" now.

In another related report, Guggenheim also commented on Tom Welling's Clark Kent in the second part of Crisis on Infinite Earths. He told TVLine that Welling was terrific and revealed that the actor told him they've written one scene that he can't say "no" to.

In part 2, Lex Luthor wants to kill all the Supermen in the multiverse, but his plan was thwarted when his kryptonite didn't harm Welling's character. Then, they found out Clark gave up his powers for his family. He's now happily married to Lois and with young daughters.

He remarked that having a family is more than any superpowers. Clark is no longer a threat to Lex, so the latter retreated. Many think that what Clark chose for his life was perfect for his storyline. He decided to lose his powers to be with Lois and their kids. He chose his family over everything.

The Flash featured the third part of Crisis on Infinite Earths on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8 PM. Then, the crossover event will be on break, and the third and fourth part will be back on Arrow on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 8 PM, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow on the same day at 9 PM, respectively.
