Kate Middleton was a "show-stopper" earlier this week in an official engagement at the Buckingham Palace. As per royal fans, the Duchess of Cambridge's overall appearance and style were truly "stunning." But while her Alexander McQueen navy dress was remarkable, it was her iconic sash and brooch that caught the attention of many.

These items are not anyone's ordinary accessories to complement their looks. As it happens, they all hold significant values and titles to the monarchy.

According to Express UK, the royal blue sash "signifies" a "special title" that Queen Elizabeth II gave Kate Middleton last year. It was also given to Countess Sophie of Wessex in 2010 and Duchess Camilla of Cornwall in 2012.

The monarch gave Kate Middleton the same title, Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, during her eighth wedding anniversary with Prince William in 2018. It was noted that the title is a "special honor" that is only bestowed upon individuals who gave "extraordinary services" to the Crown.

As for the brooch pinned in a yellow ribbon, which featured a painted portrait of the young Queen Elizabeth II, it is the Royal Family Order brooch. Town & Country Magazine stated that it is a "separate honor" given to the Duchess of Cambridge.

While it holds a significant title to the monarchy, it is more of a "personal memento." Nevertheless, it can still be worn in official engagements and events.

Kate Middleton first wore the sash and brooch during the State Banquet held for President Donald Trump back in June. She was seen next wearing both pieces last Wednesday during the annual Diplomatic Corps event held at the Buckingham Palace.

Royal experts and analysts are certain that the duchess does not only hold these titles dear to her because they were given by Queen Elizabeth II. But, she also knows the real significance and importance of these items as they "represent" her "growing role" within the monarchy.

The queen is gradually handing a few responsibilities over to the younger royals, especially Prince Charles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton. It is not surprising, though, given that the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge are the ones next in line to the throne.

Just a few weeks ago, the queen passed another title to the duchess. She is now named as the Patron of Family Action charity, a title that the monarch had held since 1953 after Queen Mary bestowed it upon her.
