A lot of people were surprised when they learned that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would not spend the holidays with Queen Elizabeth II and the rest of the royal family. The Sussexes were on a six-week vacation break to be with the former actress' mom, Doria Ragland, in the United States. As this would be the first time that they possibly wouldn't celebrate Christmas with the Monarch, what was the royal couple's reason behind it?

News emerged last month that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would miss the annual Christmas day get together at Sandringham. They are in the U.S. to celebrate baby Archie's first Thanksgiving in Meghan Markle's homeland and with her mother. There are also rumors that they will be staying in the country to celebrate Christmas with her family, although that is yet to be confirmed.

According to Express, their decision not to Celebrate Christmas with Queen Elizabeth "is not unprecedented for younger royal family members." To recall, Prince William and Kate Middleton also skipped the holiday with the royal family to spend it with the Middletons.

Anyhow, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle already spent two Christmases at Sandringham. So now that they have a kid of their own, they may like to spend it privately elsewhere.

Royal author and commentator Kate Nicholl claimed that they might want to have a low-key Christmas celebration after their hectic royal schedule this year. "Given their whirlwind year it's no wonder they are trading a busy royal Christmas for a more low [sic] key family affair," she said, per Vanity Fair.

As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are still enjoying their family vacation when they will be back? After their celebration in the United States, they are expected to return to their royal duties in the New Year.

However, there are claims that the former Suits star is still busy working despite their downtime. She is doing her best to establish their new royal foundation, the Sussex Foundation after they left Prince William and Kate Middleton's the Royal Foundation.

The Daily Telegraph recently reported that Meghan Markle met her former Hollywood publicist, Keleign Thomas Morgan, in the U.S. A source revealed that she was hoping to extend the reach of the Sussex Foundation over the said country to create an "international charity."

The insider explained that this is a mission that Meghan Markle has been longing to do, working on creating an international charity that could change lives. Now that she has the platform and is a member of the royal family, she can easily make her dream come true with the help of her husband, Prince Harry.
