Royal fans often see Kate Middleton wearing a tiara at major royal events, but not Meghan Markle. The Duchess of Sussex was only seen wearing a crown on her wedding with Prince Harry last year, but never again since then. So, why does Prince William's wife is allowed to wear this headdress often but not the former actress?
The Duchess of Cambridge dazzled at the recent annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace. She donned Princess Diana's favorite Lover's Knot tiara, which she was seen often wearing on multiple occasions, per Good Morning America.
Kate Middleton easily got everyone's attention at the event. In fact, she was the center of it due to her stunning beauty and stature. She looked gorgeous in her navy velvet Alexander McQueen gown that she paired with dazzling pieces of jewelry.
But unlike Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle is rarely seen wearing a tiara. The former Suits star became the Princess of the United Kingdom upon her marriage to Prince Harry. Hence, she has the right to wear a crown of her own.
Royal etiquette noted that a woman must be born a princess or married to a royal family member to wear a crown. This accessory is quite common among her peers, like Kate Middleton. So, why Meghan Markle is rarely seen wearing one?
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Insider, via MSN, that Prince Harry's wife has yet to wear tiara again because she doesn't have the chance to do so. He said that tiaras are only worn at weddings, state banquets, and other white tie events.
"She will undoubtedly wear them at appropriate future events, though obviously this will depend on the duties she and Harry decide they want to undertake as senior royals," Fitzwilliams explained. So, why she didn't wear a tiara to the state dinners she attended in Fiji and Tonga last year?
At the time, according to Daily Mail Online, Prince Charles advised Meghan Markle not to wear a tiara because it was "too extravagant." The Duke of Wales told his daughter-in-law that it was not appropriate to wear one at the said events.
However, Fitzwilliams added that it was due to the "relaxed dress code" at the two dinner parties. The casual events were said to be in line with the royal couple's personal preferences. Prince Harry donned black tie for the event, so it wouldn't be appropriate for Meghan Markle to wear a tiara.
