This year has not been that good for the royal family. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle garnered a lot of backlash after the release of their ITV documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey back in October, where they shared about their struggles being in the spotlight. Then last month, Prince Andrew announced that he will be stepping back from his royal duties after a scandalous interview with BBC Newsnight.

Now, Queen Elizabeth is reportedly relying on her great-grandchildren to repair the royal family’s image. Next week, the royals will be doing their annual Christmas walk, and for the first time ever, Her Majesty allowed Prince George and Princess Charlotte to join them.

“Ultimately it’s the Queen who decides who does what on Christmas Day as it is a formal engagement. So perhaps she is conscious that this is a positive way in which to change the narrative,” the source said.

Royal fans have always been eager to see all the young royals, especially Prince George. The six-year-old is the third in the line of succession to the British throne, and many are excited to see how much the future king has grown over the years.

Queen Elizabeth knows how much the public loves to see Prince George and Princess Charlotte with the senior royals for the yearly Christmas walkabout, so she may see this as an opportunity to divert everyone’s attention from Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Prince Andrew’s issues. Her Majesty is known for trying to avoid the controversies as much as possible, so she would rather change the subject into something positive than dragging the negativity further.

Meanwhile, Prince George and Princess Charlotte are not the only royals who will be improving the royal family’s image. Their parents Prince William and Kate Middleton continue to be assets to the royal family, and their recent appearance on BBC One’s Christmas special A Berry Merry Christmas proved that they are what the royal family needs to change people’s views.

According to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, Prince William and Kate Middleton have yet to put a foot wrong. In other words, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are doing their duties so well that they continue to bring honor to the royal family.

“William and Kate have, thankfully, yet to put a foot wrong and this is likely to be a delightful and widely watched Yuletide experience from which others might learn,” Fitzwilliams said.
