According to The Mary Sue, Melania Trump's involvement on the issue is relevant because she campaigns for anti-bullying with her BeBest initiative. Also, she criticized Professor Pamela Karlan, who used the name of her child during her impeachment testimony.
Hence, her point that "a minor child deserves privacy and should be kept out politics" seems to only apply to her son and not to everyone else. As she sees Greta Thunberg as a public figure, she seems to be fair game for criticisms, public mockery and bullying not just from adults but even from the world leaders.
