In an online discussion on Quora, a few netizens said that Prince William and Kate are more popular than Prince Harry and Meghan because the Cambridges are more consistent with their public relations strategy. Prince William also closely listens to his royal advisers, as a future king should, compared to the "hot headed" Prince Harry.
Royal fan Lana DeSimone shared that Prince William and Kate respect the monarchy and behave in a way expected of royals. Prince Harry, on the other hand, is his own man and makes his own rules, just like his American wife. DeSimone went on to say that compared to the Cambridges, the Sussexes live like celebrities and not like royals.
Another royal fan said that Prince William is also more settled in his role as the second in line to the throne and father of three. Prince Harry, on the other hand, is still learning to juggle his royal role and family duties amid an intense media spotlight.
However, another commenter said that Prince Harry's popularity isn't dipping. He and Meghan are actually a "fantastic draw" for fans. Meghan has not been with the royal family long enough to be able to make significant changes.
The poll from YouGov, released last fall, had over 9,000 participants. While 71 percent gave Prince Harry a positive rating, his numbers were down from 77 percent in 2018. Prince William, on the other hand, climbed to 69 percent.
The survey was done from June 2018 to June 2019, which was roughly Prince Harry's first year of marriage to Meghan. During this time, the Sussex pair was swamped with many controversies, including taking private jets for their summer trips when they were preaching about saving the environment.
Meanwhile, a royal expert suggested that Prince William and Kate's popularity may even soar when the royal family heads to church for Christmas Day. According to Camilla Tominey, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to walk to the estate with their two older children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
Prince Harry and Meghan, on the other hand, will not be with the royals for Christmas Day. Tominey said that this will be an opportunity for Prince William and Kate to "project their children forward" and walk with the rest of the family as well.
