Prince George and Princess Charlotte might have just done their first royal duty with much success. The children of Prince William and Kate Middleton, ages 6 and 4 respectively, did their very first Christmas walk in Sandringham as they headed for Christmas with Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family.
According to BBC, the Cambridge kids, led by their parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, also met, shook hands, and talked with the people waiting to see the royals make their annual Christmas walk. Prince George looked dignified in his long pants and navy suit while Princess Charlotte matched her mother's outfit with a green double-breasted coat.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte also accepted flowers they received from the crowd. At one point, the Duchess of Cambridge was seen sitting down to her daughter's eye level as she received flowers from a young boy. According to the Telegraph, Princess Charlotte also inspected a doll and an inflatable flamingo as they were given hugs by the children.
The mood of this Christmas walk was rather festive as the crowds, estimated at 4,000, debated which royal they were most excited to see in person. It was particularly a warm December though compared to last Christmases.
First to walk towards the church was Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, the Countess of Wessex. Next to the was Princess Beatrice and her fiancé Edo Mapelli Mozzi.
Then it was Prince Charles and the Cambridge family with Prince William, Kate, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Prince Louis wasn't expected to walk with the family as he was only two years old.
After the Cambridges, Princess Eugenie arrived with her husband Jack Brooksbank, then Princess Anne. Queen Elizabeth came last just as Camilla alighted from a car.
Missing from the traditional Christmas celebrations were Prince Harry and Meghan, who left for the United States in November. Prince Andrew was also not with the royal family although he was at the 9:00 a.m. service allegedly with his older brother, Prince Charles.
According to CBS News, Prince Andrew has been keeping a low profile since his controversial connection with the disgraced businessman Jeffrey Epstein. He also used a different entrance to the church so as not to rouse the crowd waiting to see the royal family members.
Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family, including Prince Charles, heard mass at 11:00 a.m. Prince Philip did not join the Christmas walk as he just got out of the hospital following four-day routine treatment.
