Last year, Apple launch the bigger and more powerful 16-inch MacBook Pro, which many professional users love. The Cupertino tech giant did not release a new 13-inch model in 2019. A new report suggests that Apple could use some important upgrades on its 13-Inch MacBook Pro should it decide to release a new model this year.

The current generation 13-inch MacBook Pro that we see today was released in the late part of 2016. In other words, this year, the premium laptop is four years old, which means the arrival of a new model seems long overdue. It also means that the 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro could feature major hardware upgrades aside from the usual internal enhancements.

Apple might want to upgrade the keyboard of the 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro since the new 16-inch MacBook Pro now features a scissor-switch type of keyboard. It is also unimaginable for Apple to use the problematic Butterfly keyboard on the upcoming model considering the headache it gave the company in the past. The new scissor-switch keyboard features improved travel and tactile feedback, according to Forbes' Brooke Crothers.

Apple could also upgrade the processor of the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the 10th generation processors from Intel, maybe with a 10-nanometer one. With this new processor, the 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro could have six-core processors, possibly DDR4 memory, and enhanced Iris Plus graphics. It could replicate what Dell did to its 2019 Dell XPS 13 with Intel Core i7-10710U.

When it comes to graphics, the 10th generation Intel processors come with Intel Iris Plus graphics. The Cupertino company usually works with Intel to improve the graphics of its MacBook Pro. So, perhaps, it might do the same with its 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro. The other possible scenario is for Apple to use its own silicon chip for its coming MacBook Pro this year.

In terms of display, we do not know yet if Apple will use the rumored mini-LED displays on the 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro or will reserve it to the next 16-inch MacBook Pro. This kind of display technology offers some advantages of OLED displays without the risk of OLED burn-in. In terms of size, Apple might retain the 13-inch MacBook Pro size or might release the 14-inch MacBook Pro.

A 14-inch MacBook Pro would be big, just like the 15.4-inch MacBook Pro jumping to 16-inch. But, even just a 13.5-inch is already a big leap as Apple would be sharing the same size as the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2. A bigger chassis would also enable better temperature management.
