So far, the Super Retina XDR displays found in iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are considered by many as the best displays released in 2019. But, it appears that Apple is not settled with this. LG Display, one of the Cupertino company's suppliers, is preparing for a new display technology that will deliver touchscreen panels using LTPO backplane technology in some of the iPhone 12 models releasing this year, according to a new report.
The Low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO), was first developed by Apple for its Apple Watch Series. Backplane technology includes a thin film transistor, which is the component responsible for turning individual pixels on and off. It means it plays a crucial role in the power consumption and refresh rate of the device.
LTPO backplane technology display is also 15 percent more efficient and consumes less power than the LTPS or low-temperature polysilicon displays currently found on AMOLED iPhones. One significant advantage of using LTPO backplane technology display is that it could be made thinner. Should Apple decide to use this display technology on its iPhone 12, in theory, it could help increase the size of the devices' batteries.
Due to its low power consumption feature, Apple could use the LTPO display technology on the iPhone 12 models that support 5G. The next-generation wireless connectivity support could drain the devices' power faster. iPhone 12 users would welcome this increase in battery life because of the new display technology.
Earlier reports revealed that Apple would release six new iPhone models this year. TFI Analyst and reliable Apple tipster Ming-Chi Kuo, meanwhile, predicted that the Cupertino company will release five iPhone models this year and will have another one early next year. Two of these models are probably the iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 9 that many Apple enthusiasts are buzzing about.
The next-generation iPhone SE is rumored to feature a 4.7-inch LCD display and will retail at $399. The much-awaited iPhone SE 2 is anticipated to arrive in Mar. 2020 and will sport a design similar to that of the iPhone 8. Other specs of the upcoming next-generation iPhone SE include a 7nm A13 Bionic chip and a bump in memory.
The other four iPhone models will feature AMOLED display, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, which will probably be released under the iPhone 12 flagship series. It is worth mentioning that these details, although interesting, are not yet official. We recommend not to get too excited about these since, at this point, these are mere speculation.
