At this year's CES, Sony officially revealed the logo of its next-generation gaming console, the PlayStation 5. For those familiar with the logos of the company's previous and current generation gaming consoles, the new logo is not something new. Amidst the praises and criticisms coming from fans and critics, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and President Jim Ryan reveals the idea behind this move.

The official logo of the PlayStation 5 is the kind of consistency that Sony was aiming for when creating and revealing the new logo, Ryan shares in a recent interview with Business Insider Japan through as reported by Gematsu. The new logo maintains the style of all the previous generations of PlayStation gaming console, explains the CEO. It is also a part of the company's goal to maintain brand consistency adds Ryan.

Sony wants people to see the new PS5 logo and instantly identify it as a PlayStation product, which explains why each PlayStation logo looks almost the same and comes with a minor change, says the SIE president. Sony has an obligation to make sure that PlayStation 4 owners are invested and believes that associating a similar logo to the upcoming next-generation gaming console should do just that, adds the CEO. But, social media have ways of talking about the new PS5 logo with funny memes.

Sony also confirmed the holiday 2020 release window of the PlayStation 5 and some of its specs. The specs confirmed for the PS5 are the same specs that we already saw earlier on leaks. It includes the game-changing solid-state drive (SSD), 3D audio, and a new controller that features haptic feedback, among others. Fans are a bit disappointed that Sony did not reveal the physical hardware of the PS5 at the CES 2020, but considering the release window, it is only a matter of time that we get to see what the PS5 looks like.

Microsoft's next-generation gaming console, the Xbox Series X, was officially unveiled last year at The Games Awards. Like the PS5 logo, the design of the new gaming console from Microsoft was also subject to a lot of ridicule and was compared to various household appliances. Xbox Series X will also arrive in the same release window as the PS5.

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and President Jim Ryan also say that Sony has not yet revealed the major and unique features of the PS5 and that what we know right now about the gaming console is but a preview of what it will offer at launch.
