Prince Charles is known for his deep-rooted love of the environment. The future king would share updates about environmental issues to spread awareness about the matter.

However, US President Donald Trump recently called those trying to sound the alarm on climate change as "prophets of doom" and “absolute power to dominate, transform and control every aspect of our lives.” This didn't sit well with Prince Charles.

Although the royal family is known for steering clear from topics about politics and controversial statements, Prince Charles couldn’t help but react to Donald Trump’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The future King recently spoke about climate change in an exclusive interview. There, he shared his thoughts about the US President’s “Prophets of doom” comments.

“Well, people have accused me of that for a very long time, and worse probably,” Prince Charles said. “But it’s the thing I’ve always hoped to avoid. Basically, my grandchildren’s generation are standing up and saying, ‘What are you doing? We can’t go on like this.’ That’s why I was trying to push as much as I could before we got to this stage. But now… we simply can’t just sit there and say, ‘It should be business as usual.’”

Regarding the fires that have devastated parts of the US, Donald Trump partly blamed it on California’s “terrible forest management.” But Prince Charles said that climate change is the one to be blamed for it.

“I don’t think you can say it all is, but there is an enormous element of it which is due to global warming,” the Prince of Wales said. “[Modern societies] have abandoned all the timeless knowledge and wisdom of all the indigenous people who I’ve tried, again for years, to emphasize the importance of their management of nature. Frequently, things haven’t been done which used to be done by the aborigines for thousands of years. So maybe we ought to be managing this better. At the same time, we must tackle what is causing the warming.”

Prince Charles was not the only one who criticized Donald Trump’s comments. The joint leader of Germany's Green Party, Robert Habeck, shared that “Only self-praise, ignorance, disregard for everyone, no perception of global problems. It was the worst speech I've ever heard in my life.”

Donald Trump is considered as one of the most popular US Presidents of all time. However, his popularity is not because of how people like his leadership, but because the majority do not agree with his views, and Prince Charles seems to be one of them.
