Actor Sung Joon, who is known for his roles in Gu Family Book, In Need of Romance 3 and Discovery of Love recently revealed some personal information that shocked his fans. Through his agency, the actor admitted that he was already married and is now a father to a child.
According to Sung Joon's agency, the actor married his non-celebrity girlfriend before he enlisted in December 2018 but did not disclose the information to the public. The couple has since welcomed a child into their family.
In his handwritten letter, Sung Joon explained why it took a long time for him to admit his relationship status. He has been serving in the Korean military for over a year before he decided to reveal his marriage and child.
He said that he and his wife decided to get married before he joined the army, especially when they learned that they were going to become parents. He chose to keep things low key because he wanted to protect his wife and child from negative publicity.
"Then a year passed, and recently, I was worried about my wife, who has endured everything alone without me, so I applied for a change of service, and recently, I started my remaining military service as a regular military worker [a special circumstances soldier who can serve during the day, then go home at night]," he said.
He also apologized to his fans for keeping this information for so long. He said that he was still unsure of what to do because he was still getting used to his role as head of the household and provider for his family.
He sought understanding from his supporters by the way he broke the news to them. In return, he promised them that when he makes his comeback in the entertainment industry, he will become a more mature individual and promised to fulfill his role as an actor and ahead of the family.
"With 2020's new start, please look forward to more changes, and I'll try hard," he said.
Sung Joon is not the first artist to reveal his wedding news belatedly. It can be recalled that U-Kiss' Eli encountered a similar problem and only revealed his relationship status when he was about to become a dad.
