A family friend is opening up about Meghan Markle and Thomas Markle's estranged relationship. Once known as "daddy's girl," the Duchess of Sussex shut her father out of her life in the months leading up to her marriage to Prince Harry.
The friend spoke to Fox News to say that it's heartbreaking to watch Meghan and Thomas' relationship fall apart. Before this, Meghan and her dad were, apparently, really close as she lived with him after her parents divorced.
Apparently, Thomas used to drop off his daughter wherever she needed to be during her younger years in Los Angeles, which included trips to her auditions. The people at Meghan's school saw her father as a "consistent parent" who was primarily her carer. He was a constant fixture not just in Meghan's life but in the school environment. Thus, many were saddened to learn that the duchess and her dad were no longer in speaking terms.
In 2018, Thomas grabbed the headlines when he pulled a stunt to attract paparazzi and earn money off his photos despite warnings from Prince Harry not to engage the media. The father apologized for his behavior but he still could not come to his daughter's wedding as he suffered an attack and had to undergo heart surgery.
Since then, Meghan's relationship with her father turned sour. In a recent documentary, Thomas said that he no longer existed in his daughter's eyes. He also revealed that Prince Harry was really angry over his stunt with the media and he's not hoping he'll reconcile with the royal pair anytime soon.
At this point, Thomas acknowledged that Meghan and Prince Harry won't want to see or talk to him. The former Hollywood lighting director also said that he has not yet even seen his grandson, Archie. The only time he gets an update about his grandson is if it's on the news.
Meanwhile, amid the rift between Meghan and her father, Prince Harry and his brother Prince William are also, reportedly, still not on good terms. A family friend revealed that Prince Harry left for Canada in mid-January to join Meghan and his son without patching things up with big older brother.
However, they are, apparently, both relieved that the big plan for Prince Harry and Meghan to step back from their royal duties is finally over. Earlier, Prince Harry met with Prince William, Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth to discuss their new life away from the royal limelight.
