"Half-Life" one of the well-loved first-person shooter games back in the 90s that has been talked about, most hoping to get a sequel of sorts. It continued to have a following, and those gamers could be in for a treat starting next month. "Half-Life: Alyx" is set to be released in March, ending a decade-long wait. However, there are some things worth noting before getting all excited.

For one, "Half-Life: Alyx" will be exclusive to PC-based VR systems only, Slash Gear reported. It will be a sequel-prequel installment that will take place somewhere in between Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2. So while most were anticipating a Half-Life 3 coming out, this edition will be more of a spin-off above everything else.

But the key element to expect from "Half-Life:Alyx:" is that it will be making use of virtual reality. Adapting to new technology, it could be something worth trying out. The whole thing is believed to be tied up to Valve's Index VR system, something that will hopefully take off well.

For gamers who plan to try out "Half-Game: Alyx," there are certain things to remember. The most essential of them all is getting a compatible headset to play the game. By default, the Valve Index headset would do, but the problem is that it is currently sold out on Steam. The good news is that any headset that works with SteamVR will suffice.

The list of compatible headsets includes the Oculus Rift S or Oculus Quest. Of the two, the latter may provide some discomfort since it still requires a link cable despite being a wire-free headset. The HTC Vive is reportedly another option, another wireless headset that should account for a good gaming experience with "Half-Life: Alyx", The Next Web reported. And while these are options, it would be best to note that the PlayStation VR headset is the only one that appears to be incompatible.

In preparation for its release on Mar. 23, avid "Half-Life" fans have time to get themselves in game shape. Valve announced last month that all games in the Half-Life collection will be free to play for Steam users. This means that "Half-Life," "Half-Life 2", "Half-Life 2: Episode One," and "Half-Life 2: Episode Two" can be played, a great way to prepare and re-educate gamers to "Half-Life: Alyx."

Admittedly the largest game of Valve to date by Valve designer Greg Coomer, fresh perspectives based on previous game installments, should be something to look forward to once the game is finally out in the open.
