Kate Middleton's parents are clearly supported of her and her husband, Prince William. The Duke of Cambridge even commended his father-in-law and mother-in-law. However, there was a time when Michael Middleton didn't like the idea that friends, like Kate and William, would have a relationship.

Before the Cambridges ended up marrying each other, they were once university friends. They were both studying at the University of St Andrews. As they were living in the same flat, rumors started to emerge that Prince William and Kate Middleton had a relationship.

However, Michael Middleton shut down that idea in 2013. "People do not seem to realize that there are two girls and two boys sharing the flat at university," he said, via Express. "They are together all the time because they're the best of pals - and yes, cameramen are going to get photos of them together."

He confirmed that there was nothing more than what people saw. He even added that they were very amused about the idea to be the father- and mother-in-law of Prince William, and he never thought that it would happen.

But, everything changed when Kate Middleton and Prince William got married in 2011. Fast forward to today, they are now living in Kensington Palace and have three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Meanwhile, Carole Middleton recently celebrated her 65th birthday with a lot of love, greetings, and treats from her own party-supply company, Party Pieces. Hello! Magazine noted that her staff wanted to make her special day a memorable one, so they surprised her with beautiful decorations and a custom cake.

In a post on the business' Instagram account, they shared a snap of Carole's special cake with her photo and two candles, numbers six and five. In the caption, they said they set their office up for her 65th birthday.

Sweet birthday wishes then started to pour in from her family, her husband, Michael, and kids, Kate Middleton, Pippa, and James. Of course, Carole's son-in-law, Prince William, who has always been close to her, greeted her on her special day.

During their first interview as an engaged couple, Prince William commended Kate Middleton's family for being "very, very close." He had a good relationship with them, and he felt fortunate that they got their support. Mike and Carole were also loving, caring, and welcoming of him that made him felt like he was part of the family.
